Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
At Hive IT, we value the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI), and believe that by embodying these principles we can bring out the best in ourselves and deliver the best to our clients. We recognise that, as a company, we still have a long way to go but are committed to taking the necessary steps to be a truly equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation, which has included setting up an EDI strategy team to help inform the company’s actions in reaching this goal.
What does it mean to us?
Equity: Equity to Hive means recognising that treating everyone equally has shortcomings, when the playing field is not level. An equity approach emphasises that everyone should not be treated the same, but according to their own needs.
Diversity: Diversity to Hive means being in organisation and/or group which includes and involves people from a range of demographic differences which include: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation, neurodiverse, socio-economic background.
Inclusion: Inclusion to Hive means everyone at work, regardless of their background, identity or circumstance, feels valued, accepted, has a voice, feels welcome and are supported to succeed at work. Hive actively invites every person and group to contribute and participate freely (how they want to, when they want to). If we don’t achieve these things, we're not inclusive no matter how diverse we are.
How exactly are we bringing this about?
Our goals for 2025, informed by our EDI audit are to:
- Ensure all members of the Senior Leadership Team and the EDI Strategy Team receive tailored EDI training, aligned with the recommendations from our EDI audit. The training will be customised to address the unique needs of our organisation, focusing on areas where knowledge gaps have been identified.
- Begin reviewing and updating our policies and processes from an EDI perspective, ensuring they align with current best practices and evolving standards. We will also streamline language to eliminate jargon, ensuring they more accurately reflect our ethos and voice.
- Evaluate EDI inclusion initiatives and explore opportunities to implement and support them, in consultation with the wider company.
As part of our goals for 2024, by the end of the year we planned to:
- Undertake an external EDI evaluation to find ways that we can improve
- Publish a plan of action to address issues identified in the evaluation
- Start building an external network for EDI to support our efforts and offer different perspectives
We successfully:
- Undertook an EDI Evaluation.
- Defined our plan of action, documented in our 2025 Goals.
- Began building an external network for EDI identifying and documenting potential speakers and communities to engage with.
This is a living statement and will be monitored, reviewed and updated regularly as we adapt, iterate and improve. We plan to share updates on our progress and learning for example via blogs on activities we’re undertaking, via this statement or through one off reports.
EDI Accreditation
We have undergone an EDI Accreditation Assessment which has determined that Hive IT is "Invested" in Improving EDI. Our assessment has provided guidance on areas for us to focus on and improve and we are working towards those improvements.
